It is no secret these days that Green Tea can improve one’s everyday way of life in a multitude of ways. The studies are out there, and the media can’t get enough of it! We open the newspapers, turn on the television, listen to the radio and there it is: “Green Tea’s extraordinarily health benefits”. Best of all, it’s all true, but what you might not know is that it isn’t the only type of Tea with such an ability. According to some scientists, it might not even be the best choice, let’s look at White Tea vs Green Tea.
Enter White Tea, a beverage lesser known to the world despite having many remarkable qualities. So, how does it fare against Green Tea? And which one should you ultimately choose? These questions do not have clear-cut answers, and almost all are determined by personal preference. Nevertheless, The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company have compiled the following information for you to make an educated decision. Rest assured that whichever way you go, you’re in for a treat!

White Tea vs Green Tea for Health Benefits
We’ve referred it briefly already, but could White Tea really be more health beneficial than Green Tea? Simply put – yes, and it is. But how, exactly?
White Tea is the least processed type of Tea, even over Green Tea, meaning the leaves retain the highest amount of antioxidants. As such, it contains more Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a polyphenolic catechin, than Green Tea – though the latter also contains a lot, too.
EGCG, according to the latest scientific research, holds the key to the medicinal qualities of frequent White and Green Tea consumption. It is arguably the best antioxidant available to us through Tea, one capable of combating free radicals in the body.
Free radicals are the product of natural, though harmful, human oxidation, which when left unchecked, can lead to numerous chronic conditions including cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes. The EGCG found in White Tea, meanwhile, can, very potentially, reduce the risks of developing such conditions. The same applies to Green Tea, but many argue that the higher amount of EGCG in White Tea makes it, at least in this sense, better.

White Tea vs Green Tea for weight Loss
Both White Tea and Green Tea can improve one’s weight management capabilities; however, the former again has the edge over the latter.
According to research, White Tea extract effectively reduces the deposition of triglycerides in human adipocytes, or fat cells, and promotes the breakdown of fats.
EGCG also has a part to play in boosting the metabolism, which enables the body to burn fat quicker and more efficiently, thus offering those who eat healthily and exercise frequently a better chance of losing weight.
But that doesn’t mean Green Tea “loses” necessarily because, to a lesser extent, it can offer many of the same qualities. It’s likewise vital to note that, however much you drink either beverage, neither Green Tea vs White Tea will do all of the work for you. That means getting up early for that morning jog, choosing a banana over biscuits, and generally being conscious of living a healthy and active lifestyle.

White Tea vs Green Tea for Relaxation
Nothing says “relaxing” more than sitting on the sofa with your favourite brew. But is there a Tea that can help us to relax more than another? Not exactly.
All we can say for sure is that, in a crisis, most British people “brew up a cuppa” so they can “keep calm and carry on”. During the Second World War, Prime Minister Winston Churchill believed (rightly, in our opinion) that Tea was vital for the country’s morale. Nothing much has changed today other than the fact that we have more types of Tea to choose from.
A study conducted by University College London (UCL) found that participants who drank Tea (no matter the type) four times a day for six weeks had lower levels of cortisol – the stress hormone. In other words, it doesn’t matter which loose Tea you choose, whether it is Green, White, Black or Oolong – just drink up and feel better for it! It’s as simple as that.

White Tea vs Green Tea for Popularity
Green Tea undoubtedly wins in this department. According to recent statistics, Green Tea is the second most consumed type of Tea in the world at 20%, the first being Black Tea at a whopping 78%.
The remaining 2% is not only White Tea, but also Oolong Tea, as well as a few even lesser known brews. Ultimately, that means that LESS THAN 2% of the world consumes White Tea.
Could this be set to change? It seems anything is possible in the world of Tea these days, but don’t count on it happening any time soon! Green Tea, after all, has a 5,000-year head start. That, of course, doesn’t mean you can’t start a new trend among your friends by choosing White Tea today.

White Tea vs Green Tea for Taste
Like any consumable, it’s impossible to determine which Tea tastes better as it all depends on personal preference. Someone who likes apples, for example, may hate pears, while someone else may feel the complete opposite. The same applies to Green Tea and White Tea.
Green Tea, generally speaking, boasts grassy, herbaceous notes, often with slightly astringent undertones (this can differ depending on the Type of Green Tea chosen).
White Tea, meanwhile, commonly consists of delicate, almost floral notes, and is slightly sweeter (again, this can differ depending on the type of White Tea chosen).
Still unsure? Try both and see which suits your palate best!
