Baby Shower Afternoon Tea Ideas

The meal known as Afternoon Tea dates back to 1840. This was when Anna Russell, Duchess of Bedford and lifelong friend of Queen Victoria, created it to satisfy her appetite before supper. Little has changed today – it remains a popular pastime. However, themed events have become increasingly trendy, particularly for special occasions, which is where baby shower Afternoon Tea ideas come in.

A theme can be almost anything, from Alice in Wonderland to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (to name but two fashionable styles). Another option, of course, is to keep it relatively traditional, but with slight twists on classics thrown in that are related to baby showers. The choice is yours. Perhaps you could even try one of our baby shower Afternoon Tea suggestions found below?

Afternoon Tea Baby Shower Venues

Those organising an Afternoon Tea baby shower should probably start with the venue. No matter where you are in the UK, regardless of whether it’s a cafe, restaurant, pub or spa you’re looking for, our directory will, undoubtedly, help. Simply browse our remarkable listings via our sister website, decide which establishment takes your fancy, and follow the instructions to book.

Popular destinations include an Afternoon Tea in London, a lunchtime in Bath, or an extravagant setting in Manchester. Additionally, if not all the more beloved than anywhere else in Britain, there is much of the west country – not least Cornwall and Devon. They’ll be one issue here, though, and that’s determining which order to lather your cream and jam onto scones!

Afternoon Tea Baby Shower Decorations

Apart from the food itself, when people think of Afternoon Tea baby showers, thoughts often drift to floral tablecloths, bunting, or quaint doilies. The good news is that unless you’ve got something specific in mind, most venues will decorate for you. But what if you’d like to showcase your own decorative prowess, or you’re in the mood for getting creative?

If you’re traditionally-minded, you could colour coordinate the chosen room based on the sex of the baby: blue for boys and pink for girls. However, you should probably account for the fact that not everyone likes these age-old values anymore, and some people might even be offended. A safer option could be to branch out and embrace a variety of colours, patterns and designs.

Afternoon Tea Baby Shower Food Ideas

A baby shower Afternoon Tea menu tends to start with Leaf Tea, usually either Breakfast Tea or Earl Grey, although other infusions might be available. It’ll then likely consist of finger sandwiches of various fillings, scones with cream and jam (you get to choose the Cornish or Devon way!) and plenty of cake. There could even be the chance of having a bottle of Champagne or Prosecco for added luxury.

Not “baby shower” enough for your liking? Maybe you could ask the cook or chef to create appropriately-themed dessert treats such as baby biscuits? Just keep in mind that some of your party guests might be vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free or have some other dietary requirement. Always consider checking our directory to ensure the chosen menu is to everyone’s tastes.
